I am new to to the board but hardly new to the world of fantasy table top gaming. I can actually remember a time from my childhood when churches burned D+D sets because they found them to be in league with the devil.
Thats why I like Heroscape so much, I almost went blind trying to paint my Hero Quest pieces, even though the combat systems are suspiciously similar.
My question is this, I want a couple (first edition) master set version of heroscape with the glitter laden version of the water tiles. Does anyone know where I can get a couple of them?
And moreover, how do you tell which version you are holding by looking at the box? Too often in this type of thing they don't update the box photo. If there is a difference between rear cover art and some of you know what said difference is, some help would be greatly appreciated, perchance even a box scan?
I assume the copyright date on the box will not have changed.

Sinferno, Welcome (for future reference you may want to join HeroScapeHQ.com as the boards are more active there as this board was a filler between heroscape.net and heroscapehq.com)! First a simple fact, one of the original designers of HeroScape is none other than Stephen Baker ... the designer of HeroQuest! You can still find the first printings of HeroScape at some stores that have slower moving stock. The Guest was very wrong. There is indeed a difference in the boxes! Look for an imprinted (not actually ink printed, but an imprint stamp) on the back of the Master Set box. The sparkly tiles should be in boxes marked with numbers less than 42,300. There is no other difference in box art or copyright date. If you find boxes without the cover flap and Thorgrim window, these boxes contain the "new" dice with both Skulls and Shields on a single die and will also contain solid water tiles only.

Malechi> Thanks, this is why I like tiny sites, the same reason I like buying my stuff from tiny stores. It's the personalized service by people just as strangely obsessed as I.

You're welcome. In all reality I am only here on this site as my own personal purgatory as I am not allowing myself to post on heroscapehq.com (if you're curious as to why, search posts by Malechi at heroscapehq.com - there's only 2). I instead push the people that find this site over there as it is a much bigger community. With a hell of a lot more content (including many of my own HeroScape projects). But as this site was abandonded like red-headed stepchild shortly after inseption, I just felt it needed a regular to guide the new comers. And, who better than the heroscape.net's ultimate wise-ass to do it!
