Sorry I was unclear.
Literally what is the distance across a single hex (flat-to-flat)?
It looks to be 1.5 to 1.75 inches. Most wargames adopt a 1-inch to 3-inch hex size. Larger hex sizes look more impressive in play but require large tables to play on. Small hexes allow more figures, but they can often get crowded and look more cramped.
I use a 1.69-inch hex size for a game I wrote. The terrain from HeroScape may be interchangable with my homebrew game.

religion-Ever hear of the parker brother game Survive! from the late eighties? The cardboard hexes were above 1.5 and game in three heroscape colors stone, jungle, and sand. 40 in every box if my memory doen't fail me.
Ebay is usally full of them and they can be had for a song if you don't mind a few missing pieces here and there. At the very least you can make a heroscape travel edition.
I like the plastic pieces, but this stuff could turn out to be cheaper in the long haul.

religion-Ever hear of the parker brother game Survive! from the late eighties? The cardboard hexes were above 1.5 and game in three heroscape colors stone, jungle, and sand. 40 per box. Cheap on eBay. Thanks for the info. I did vaugly recollect this game, so checked it out. It looks very good. Shipped, it appears that Survive! costs $35 or so for the 40 hex game on eBay. That might be a possibility... I am content with my homemade 3D terrain, but there is one limitation of polystyrene (blueboard) hills with felt play surfaces...inability to model underpasses or highly vertical objects without building custom pieces for every highly vertical terrain. I looked at HeroScape this afternoon and the pieces looked to be about 35mm scale. I suspect the humaniod figures to be a bit larger than the common wargame skirmish scale of 25mm-30mm. The HeroScape hexes look about 1 7/8-inches from just eyeballing it in the store.

Bought the game (Walmart with the 3 EOV's) for a good deal.
Hexes are 1.745 inches (just under 1.75) across.
Interestingly, the hex height is fairly close to 1/2 that of polystyrene blueboard. Interesting because my custom 1.69 inch hex terrain works almost perfectly intermixed with Heroscape terrain.
Thanks for the help guys,
Robert

"Race down the River??" That was my favorite Creedence Clearwater song. It was the one that got John Fogerty sued in 1995 because he released another song in his solo career "The Old Man down the road" which sounded too much like it.
He won though.
Or wait...was that Race down the river? Or was it in fact, "run through the jungle?" No, I was mistaken it was run through the jungle. It was an honest mistake so step off. I mean only around 50% of CCR songs are about the river. Nevermind. Please return yourselves to your regularly scheduled nothing.
