Just picked up a couple NERAK"S off of ebay. (One to put down, one to put up) But I didn't come here to gloat like a smug little snot, I came to complain about my folly, and more importantly to share the wealth.
Why would I? Someone here answered my question and I always give as good as I get.
The much vaulted "Gencon Exclusive" figure is nothing more than a repaint of the classic swog rider that came with the master set.
For those of you who don't know that is the rare uber repaint of the swog rider in arctic tones. That's right, the exact same piece of twopenny plastic that came in bulk as part of just another master set, bought for $50 apiece. HAd I known this I wouldn't have bought one, much less two. *cries*
The funny thing is one could make a swog rider just like this one for pennies on the dollar using the original master set piece. (honest mistake I don't have the master set yet) When Nerak arrives it would be all too easy for me to post the unique card, and a pic of the figures two profiles for painting instructions. Come on, I know some of you must be painters...With a little work you could make it look as good, no better than the orginal. (I like my beasts of prey to have a little blood on the muzzle)
In my day the only thing that came pre painted was the dice. If someone would have told me first that the piece was not unique physically only fictionally before I would have spent the money I surely would have utilized the money to something constructive. (Like picking up enough lava sets to make them a factor)
Just trying to save some of you the money and trouble I have seen. My girlfriend got into my email and wants to KILL me because even she can discern it is just a crummy recast, and she absolutely hates Heroscape.

You do know that they are having a heroscape event at TRU on october 15th and the first 30 participants get a FREE nerak. That is 30 neraks for each Tru in America. just bring some people who don't like HS like a sibling, get an extra nerak, and then let whoever you take leave. There are so many Tru's out there and not near as many HS fans so it will be to easy to get nerak. If you don't beleive me go to www.hasbro.com/heroscape

Good thing I checked the site before I killed myself for wantonly pissing away my booze money when I could have gotten the figure(s) for nothing. The free figure is indeed Nerak, and indeed is being given away for each and every toys r us. But here's the fine print. You have to be 18 years or younger to participate, and while personally I am still carded for cigarettes even though I could legally buy them for over a decade, I doubt I could pass for a teenage role playing enthusiast. I got a girlfriend for one. Seriously don't bother going to the TRU if you are old enough to vote (They WILL card) unless you have kids of your own who are patient enough to wait at the blue doors at opening for the exlusive P.O.S. which stands for Promotion on site, (oddly enough I can think of something else for this acronym to represent). I worked at a toys R us last years holiday season and some of the riots over the terrain twister RC (last years hot toy) made the current war in iraq look like a slapfight. Estrogen and greed make a terrible mix, and there is no force in nature more formiddable than a mother trying to protect their young, except of course for a mob of ten mothers all trying to secure the hottest toys from limited stock. Related news: Last years 2 for 1 sale at TRU is now a crappy buy 2 and get 1 free affair this week. With TRU's already inflated prices it means that aside from the lava men you prolly should pick up all things hero scape at wal mart or some other small buisness such as housemouse with awesome customer service or free shipping. P.S. The offer still stands for the scans on nerak if anyone wants. Beacause of the age limit on the promotion, Nerak will still prove elusive indeed for most aspiring generals with pubic hair. And I like this community so far and I always believe new visitors should come bearing gifts.

Actually the Swog Rider is not part of the $40.00 Master Set, but is in reality an expansion figure from Utgar's Rage: Knights & the Swog Rider pack which may be purchased for $10.00. So it is, in fact, even cheaper than you originally thought!

Kruguler> You are 13? Yikes. One of us needs a new hobby. And if I was truly "mr know everything", I could tell you which one of us that was. Enjoy your free figure, kid. I'd rather have gun ownership rights, voting rights, and be able to pick up booze and tobaccy with every new set of figures from my local Wal-mart. ;} Heroscape is great drunken fun, the plastic modular board is vomit resistant y'know.
Malechi> I am starting to hate that swog rider. It's bad enough it's just another Tolkien ripoff, (most heroscape figures were blatantly ripped off from some sci-fi universe) but each one has cost me more than a complete set of figure sets, and the stats while unique are not that special.
And you know my drunken idiot friend George is just gonna snap off nerak's little head with his fat fumbling uncoordinated fingers. I swear if that happens I am gonna use his skull as a dice cup. But I digress.

Unlike some people, not pointing any fingers, I am actually going to have a life when i'm your age. I'm not going to be playing some kids game and getting drunk, i'll be going to college and getting a family. And even if you do have a family or ever get one, they are probably going to be dumb like you.

kruguler> I got a four year english degree kiddo. I couldn't drop the serious money I've been pluinking on Ebay with an after school paper route. As for my alleged intelligence or lack thereof I am smart enough to direct my lady to the appropriate clinic if she were pregnant with a snotling like you.
My alcoholism is not as rampant as it seems onscreen, I've never crashed a car or forgotten to roll for damages. Besides. This stuff is more investment than play. I sold a first editon hero quest on ebay for the price of a good humidor. Don't talk to me anymore, or I will verbally spank you like your momma should of long ago.

Kruguler> I don't pick on those younger than me. Not only do I loathe bullies and unsportsmanlike conduct but there is an old saying I live by that goes "Eagles don't catch flies".
There is no reason why I would fight with you further, because even if I were to win, I would still be picking on a child below the age of reason. And were I to lose? It would look bad for me, bad beyond all reproach.
I will say one thing, I am glad to see younger folks such as yourself playing traditional board games. Especially in this age of GTA realistic violence. Until Heroscape came along I was starting to think it was a dying pastime, gone the way of model trains sets, tiddily winks and hula hoops. So suffice to say you are probably one of the more tolerable specimens from your generation.

"Add one to Nerak's attack and defence when on a snow space." Am I correct in thinking that there are no snow tiles yet, or have I just missed them?

The snow tiles (like the recently released Lava tiles were a couple of months ago) are only being shown in the prerelease stages for now. For more details you may want to visit heroscapehq.com. While there you may want to check out the future Castle terrain!
